Easter - The bunny with the hen's job

According to German tradition, at Easter the Easter Bunny appears and hides Easter eggs in the garden. But where does the Bunny get the painted hard-boiled eggs? In the past, godparents would invite the children to hunt the Bunny and they would search for the eggs hidden in the garden. As the Bunny is brisker and hens cannot lay coloured eggs, the decorated eggs were attributed to the Easter Bunny. This custom arose as the adults struggled to find an explanation for the children, as it was more believable that the Bunny brought the eggs than the hens.
